Operations
No matter how you phrase it, the West Orange First Aid Squad is ready to provide FREE emergency medical treatment and transport to anyone in West Orange who needs it. Our volunteers answer almost 4,000 emergency medical calls every year, making us one of the busiest all-volunteer squads in the state of New Jersey. Our 70 active, riding members are committed to keeping our service FREE even in the face of the mounting pressures of ever-increasing call volume and rising costs for equipment and supplies. Members agree to ride one day or night per week and share the responsibility for weekend coverage. All members are NJ certified Emergency Medical Technicians, many with advanced training in emergency medical specialties. E.M.T.s must take a state-sponsored course and pass both a practical and written test. Training is taken very seriously; each crew practices skills during the shift and ongoing group training sessions are held throughout the year. All members are certified in the application and use of defibrillators for cardiac arrest. WOFAS operates 4 state-of-the-art, fully equipped transport ambulances, one of which has 4-wheel drive to accommodate West Orange’s many steep hills. In addition, a 4-wheel drive Yukon command vehicle can respond to bring patients from remote or inaccessible locations to waiting ambulances. WOFAS works closely with other town agencies, in particular, the West Orange Fire Department and the West Orange Police Department. Advanced life support services are provided by paramedics from St. Barnabas Medical Center and other local hospitals. Copyright 2004-2005– West Orange First Aid Squad, NJ, USAAll Rights Reserved |
