Volunteers Make Things Happen

We all think about “giving something back” in the form of community service. After all, no matter what our circumstances, we can all count our blessings and reach out in some way to help others.

Volunteering with the West Orange First Aid Squad is extremely fulfilling. You’ll receive all the training you need absolutely free. First, we’ll train you in CPR for adults, infants, and children. You’ll learn to use our defibrillators that can restart a heart and bring someone back from cardiac arrest.

Then, you’ll go to E.M.T. training and earn certification from the state of New Jersey. With just a bit more orientation from us:

· How to find any street in town

· How to drive the ambulances

· How to find local hospitals

You’re ready to become a full badge member with voting privileges.

You’ll ride with the same crew each week, building camaraderie and friendships. Some of our members have been riding for over 20 years. We’ll expect you to ride regularly and keep your training current (at no cost to you). That’s no problem because you’ll find that you enjoy helping people so much you’ll want to be here as much as possible.

If you’d like to try us out, you can “observe” for up to 4 shifts before committing to a training program. Just fill out an application and you can ride with the crews – you won’t be able to treat patients, of course, but you can see how it feels to be part of the team.

Membership Benefits

· Members accrue points for our LOSAP (Length of Service Awards Program), a pension program open only to volunteers, fully funded by the township, and professionally administered

· Spending time in our “castle” which in addition to housing our vehicles, contains:

· A spacious “Ready Room” with comfortable seating, dining area, large screen TV with cable

· A full kitchen with dishes and cooking utensils

· Washer/Dryer for member use

· 3 PCs with games and high speed internet access

· Bunk rooms for overnight coverage with restful beds and tiled baths with showers

· A state-of-the-art training facility with PC/video projection for squad meetings and training sessions
